Extra Storage Ideas For Your Mudroom

Posted on

Adding additional storage facilities to the home does not have to be difficult or costly. You can easily find furniture that not only stays within your budget, but also provides the storage you are looking for and fits in with its surroundings.

If you are lucky enough to have a mudroom or utility room, you could look for mudroom benches and mudroom lockers for these particular rooms. The mudroom bench provides a comfortable seating area for you and your family to change shoes and dress up into winter gear. The bench also provides ample storage space underneath the seat for any items you wish to store. These items could include boots and shoes, other outdoor gear, or even small gardening tools. For a more comfortable sitting, you could add cushions to the seat as most of these benches are made from hardwood.

To further utilize the space within the mudroom or utility room, you could mount mudroom lockers onto the wall. These lockers are essentially cupboards with some sort of lock attached to the door. Cleaning products could be stored securely within the lockers, preventing children from gaining access to poisonous products. You could also use the space for towels or linen if you wish.

A highly recommended item that all mudrooms or utility rooms should employ is to have a coat rack. There are free standing coats racks and wall mounted coat racks available for the purpose of hanging coats and storing umbrellas. The wall mounted coat rack takes up less room and can provide space for a number of coats. The advantage of a free standing version is that you can use them for an umbrella stand as well. The umbrellas normally fit into the middle of the stand and at the base there is usually a drip tray for the water. This keeps the floor free from any water that may drip from a wet umbrella. The free standing coat rack can also be used in other areas of the home, such as near the entrance way.
